Bill Backstrom was recently quoted in a Law360 article entitled State Tax Cases to Watch in 2015.  In the article, Bill, a partner in Jones Walker’s New Orleans office and the Tax & Estates practice group leader, discusses the need for clarity in tax reporting positions following the decision in Vodafone Americas Holdings Inc. v. Farr, which is currently pending appeal at the Tennessee Supreme Court.  In Vodafone, the Court of Appeals of Tennessee affirmed the Tennessee Commissioner of Revenue’s use of alternative apportionment to apportion Vodafone’s receipts from wireless communication and data services using market-based sourcing instead of cost of performance.

John Fletcher was also recently quoted in a State Tax Notes article entitled Changes to Mississippi Law Addresses Equifax, but Transparency Issues Linger. John, a partner in Jones Walker’s Jackson, Mississippi office, discusses the difficulties for tax practitioners to find guidance on Mississippi tax law, even with the Equifax legislation becoming effective in 2015. For example, the Mississippi Department of Revenue’s policies and Board of Tax Appeals decisions are not published. The article is available at Tax Analysts (subscription required).
